Is this thing we refer to as reality a solid non-changeable place or a material mutable concept? Spirituality refers to a heaven and earth concept or in the case of some religions, heaven has many layers. There is also the Buddhist concept of past lives and rebirth until one attains perfection and a Nirvana state is attained. Clearly concepts are unproven theories, in science a theory is considered a theory until undeniable proofs can be found. What can we uncover in the briar patch of reality?
Both the houses of spirituality and science are split around absolute definitions of reality but both have some very similar conceptual agreements. So perhaps reality could be a multi-dimensional material place. Can we even make a conclusion when it seems implausible currently to prove anything conclusively?
Maybe we have to take a leap of faith and conclude that whatever serves our personal mental comfort zone is sufficient for a concept or theory to work for us?
Science and Spiritual essences:
It may be a fact that we will never have more than a shadowy outline of the full picture, certainly it's in the realms of philosophy rather than a hard science at the moment, but the times they are a changing!
Albert Einstein was a metaphysical pioneer. He believed there must be one unifying theorem to unify all powers within the universe, scientists still seek this illusive unifying theorem that would tidy up so many quantum physics equations. In other realms of science there is a growing belief that there are more than 3 dimensions to space. Some theorists claim multiple realities potentially exist, science and spiritual are indeed crossing borders.
Clash of the Titans
There are two main theories or dualities of doctrine which we can use to start the discussion point. Science, which requires an eventual provable theory before it's accepted as science “well we may have to wait for that one” and Spiritual conceptualisation from the great mystics of time.
Let's start with the oldest and most widely dispersed theory which is spiritual. Nearly all religions or spiritual sages or texts have accepted at their core that reality as we understand it is nearer to a magnificent perfect dream rather than a solid Newtonian never changing material thing. Sure, it's as solid as we can imagine but that's the point. If this is indeed an exemplary dream, its design is so completely real that we can remain convinced of solid material things all around us. That is until we find another convincing point of view.
According to the Mayan spiritual text, reality is the imagined concept of God. This reality stands alone and in conglomeration with all things, it is said to be influenced by the greater consciousness of the inhabitants of the illusion. In our case, human interactive thoughts and desires create this mesh that reality hangs on, one must therefore imagine that we could if we so chose interplay with reality in a way that changes the fabric of reality. We may wish for abundance or for connection, curses and magical incantations, provable facts or alien abduction. It just depends on your tribal belief systems.
Science is playing catch up and now the door to quantum physics is ajar.
Danish Physicist Niels Bohr who has been a large contributor to sciences understanding of quantum theory said somewhat tongue in cheek:
“If quantum mechanics hasn’t profoundly shocked you, you haven’t understood it yet.”
Especially with the recent discovery that our physical material reality isn’t really physical at all. “Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real”. Reality is made up of vibrations and sub atomic particles that have no mass and in effect are not there, they act as a display of light to represent an expectation of reality. Reality is more like a high class cinematographic display.
Albert Einstein famously said “reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one”.
He also said “Life is a presentation of choices. Wherever you are now exactly represents the sum of your previous decisions, actions and inactions”. In effect, reality is a display that you have some margin of control over but it is more in tune with the greater interplay of all things that surely must include the world of the unseen as well as garden snails and the like.
